Affordable Christmas provides low-income families in the Alhambra community the opportunity to purchase gifts for their children at a fraction of retail price. This allows parents facing financial challenges to give their children gifts for Christmas, while maintaining dignity as providers for their families.
Affordable Christmas is for families facing financial hardship within the Alhambra community and offers an opportunity for parents to purchase gifts for their families for one-tenth the retail price. 100% of proceeds from gift sales are then turned around and donated to other nonprofit organizations serving the community, giving parents not only the opportunity to purchase gifts with dignity, but to also give back to the community and a tax receipt for their donation.
Families are referred to Affordable Christmas by partnering schools and local community organizations. All gifts are intended for children and teens ages 0-16.
Affordable Christmas is hosted every December by Alhambra Beloved Community Church.
Poverty remains a significant concern in the broader Alhambra community, particularly in the immediate vicinity of our church, where it is more concentrated. We are dedicated to actively addressing issues of poverty, hunger, and homelessness within our community, and this event serves as a tangible expression of our commitment to this mission. The Affordable Christmas initiative aligns with our values of fostering responsible and equitable growth, promoting discipleship, and engaging in worship. This event uniquely blends faith and action, providing a purposeful and intentional response during a season that can be challenging and disheartening for many.
Our mission is to collect toys through the partnership of church members and community partners to create a special shopping experience for families facing poverty, low income, or challenging circumstances. During this one-day shopping event, families have the opportunity to purchase toys for their children at a mere 10% of the store value. This approach ensures that parents and guardians maintain their dignity while actively participating in choosing gifts for their loved ones. The event also serves as a platform to pray for families and connect families with local non-profits, gaining access to information and support services.

Starts with the Heart
After gift sales, 100% of the proceeds are donated to local nonprofits serving the Alhambra community. This year, we are proud to partner with a local organization called Starts with the Heart. This gives parents not only the chance to shop for holiday gifts with dignity, but also the opportunity to give back. By partnering with Starts with the Heart and other nonprofits, we aim to uplift and empower as many families as possible. Parents will receive a tax receipt for their donation to Affordable Christmas and its partner organizations.
From the innermost parts of the city outward, our hope is to demonstrate God’s love to those in need with practical resources and dignity-driven outreach so every heart we meet is cared for.
